Security and Bike Store

Yes, security is an issue (how about  date based code changes on the Institute Place entrance?)

I suppose what had to happen happened and Rehana’s bike was stolen from the courtyard between Saturday night and Sunday evening. I understand that the management committee has looked into the issue but has not managed to find an answer, although from conversations I’ve had in the corridors the issue is a burning one. Two things: A), surely it is unreasonable to expect for anyone, boy or girl, to carry their bike up and down up to four flights of stairs a day, when B) there is, for example, unused space on the left perimeter flank coming in from Institute Place. I understand that there may be restrictive covenants on the use of this area, but tying some bikes down is surely not one! How expensive can it be to fit a working lock and install some railings on which bikes can be chained, (with a small overhang against the rain as optional). I don’t think its an issue of cost, but of practical expediency and political goodwill.

 Thank you

Christian (Flat 22)

Compost/Post

Hello,

We have just moved into Flat 41 and need to know a few things, 1st; Does anyone know anything about compost in the local area/building? and 2nd; We were expecting a parcel and never received a delivery note and they are saying that it was a failed delivery. It would have been addressed to Ms Melanie Ried. If anyone has seen a delivery note floating about it would be great to get hold of it.

Many thanks from Matthew and Melanie @ 41

Meter Cupboards

We seem to have a worrying problem concerning the meter cupboard in Dalston Lane. Last week at least 2 flats in the Dalston Lane building had their electricity supply disrupted because an unauthorised person accessed the cupboard and pulled the main fuse out of the box!

Strictly speaking only directors of Eastside Academy should hold keys to these cupboards so we can keep track of who enters these areas. Unfortunately, steps will now have to be taken to secure this cupboard so we don’t have a repeat of this incident.

Telephone cupboard

Has anyone else had ongoing problems with their phone line going dead?

I have had to call out BT twice in two weeks due to this and they have told me on both times that the problem is due to someone putting their stuff in the cupboard in the basement in Institute Place. Next time they will charge me for the call out if it happens again.

Does anyone know who has access to this and using it as their own personal storage cupboard?

Thanks

Stephen

Bike Storage etc

Hi Everyone,

I’m new to the academy, and have a couple of queries.

Firstly, does anyone have a set of keys for the door that leads to the communal area from the Dalston end of the building?  There’s a note on the door saying the latch shouldnt be left on, and i dont fancy being locked out when using the bins etc.

And secondly, where do people park their bikes?  There doesnt seem to be any bike storage, considering the size of the block (apart from the main door – but wouldnt feel happy about leaving my bike out there).  and there’s posters prohibiting residents from parking in the communal areas.  Our flat is up four flights of stairs, which is proving to be a bit of a hassle when it comes to lugging it up and down the stairs.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Rehana (flat 22)
